JOB PURPOSE
The Furniture Engineer is responsible for developing furniture samples based on WSI engineering CADs or design sheets that meet or exceed WSI product and packaging testing requirements. This role also incorporates appropriate color development panels or components into furniture samples and supports Brand Managers and the QA Production team by providing complete and accurate product information throughout the product development cycle until final approval.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Develop and construct furniture samples that meet all WSI testing requirements.
Establish and maintain strong business and technical relationships with factory management and R&D teams.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues arising during sample development, testing, and production.
Conduct in-house sample testing during development to address material or construction issues.
Collaborate with vendors, merchandisers, and US counterparts during sample reviews by providing detailed product data sheets, sample review forms, cost sheets, color panels, and test results to achieve target costs, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality.
Communicate and document all sample changes and callouts through the product design system.
Ensure all Product Information Sheets (PIS) are 100% accurate before submission to WSI Marketing.
Review Assembly Instructions by assembling products to verify correct hardware size, quantity, and assembly steps; revise instructions as needed and coordinate reviews and updates with Merchandise Associates and Brand Managers for system documentation.
Lead pre-production meetings with vendors and hand over all final approved sample documentation to vendors and WSI Production teams, including final product data sheets, sample review forms, assembly instructions, signed MCS and MCP, packaging BOM, CAD files, approved step panels, and production control panels.
Ensure photo samples and archive samples are built according to approved specifications and are consistent with mass production standards.
Supervise First pilot runs with vendors and WSI Production teams, including white wood reviews and Open Carton Audits.
Coordinate with vendors to update product drawings to reflect the latest revisions and ensure proper documentation in the system through Merchandise Associates.
Ensure compliance with ISTA packaging requirements.
Ensure compliance with US furniture testing requirements.
Ensure compliance with ASTM furniture safety standards, CPSC regulations, and CPSIA requirements for children’s furniture.
Provide technical training and requirements onboarding for new vendors.

Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience as a Furniture Engineer or Furniture Production Manager in an international company; product development experience is required.
Strong knowledge of upholstery materials, including leather and fabrics.
Experience with furniture hardware, glass, resin, and custom metal components.
Good written and spoken English skills.
Independent, flexible, and hardworking with a systematic and well-organized approach.
Self-starter with strong initiative and a collaborative team-player mindset.
